Bedrooms - The selling point

Along with kitchens and bathrooms, the main bedroom is often a key selling point in the home.

It is somewhere buyers need to be able to imagine relaxing and unwinding at the end of a busy day. Somewhere they can chill out on a lazy weekend morning, somewhere that is cosy and intimate whilst remaining practical and uncluttered.

Colours in the bedroom are of utmost importance and it's crucial to create a peaceful and calming atmosphere. Discreet colours such as baby blue, lilac and soft green work the best and help create that all important tranquillity whilst helping to introduce a touch of romance.
Another key feature of the bedroom is furniture placement. Make sure that the bed is the focal point - after all, that is the main purpose of the room. The next priority is storage. Remember that you are creating an intimate and peaceful room that is practical and uncluttered.

Here are my top tips in making the most out of your bedroom:

The bed!
If you can fit a double bed in the room - do it!! Double rooms are major selling points for buyers as they will be looking for as much space as possible.

Being able to fit a double bed into the room means you have that all important spare room for guests. Make sure to place the bed carefully - don't put it against a wall as it will give the impression that there is not enough space and buyers will instantly imagine having to clamber over the bed to get in it. If possible, give the bed a nice aspect by placing it opposite the window.

And bed-side tables are a must!
Everyone needs a bedside table so make sure all of your bedrooms have one. They are an invaluable place on which to put lamps, clocks, books and cups of tea for those lazy Sunday mornings. They also help balance out the room and make space for the occasional ornament or personal effect.

Get the lighting right!
Intimate yet practical lighting is a must for any bedroom. At all costs, make sure there are bed-side lights for bed-time reading - there's nothing worse than having to get out of bed to switch off the light! Avoid powerful bright main lights and, instead, opt for softer less powerful wattage bulbs that introduce a soft colour.

Avoid clutter at all costs!
As I've already mentioned, clutter in a bedroom is a big no no! The best way of avoiding this is to make sure there is the right amount of furniture in the room to store your clutter whilst keeping it neat, tidy and clutter free. Making use of the space under the bed introduces a huge amount of storage place and there are many attractive and practical solutions available from home ware stores.

Coordinate soft furnishings!
Bed linen, curtains and other soft furnishings can make a huge difference in the bedroom and it's crucial to get these coordinated.

Bright bed linen is NOT fashionable and distracts the eye away from the important features in the room. White bed linen is the best option as it creates a clean and fresh impression.

By adding softly coloured cushions in luxurious fabrics, such as silk and velvet, which coordinate with the curtains, will ensure that the room looks properly 'dressed' and well coordinated.

A little thought can add thousands to the value of your home - and sell it quickly!

The finishing touches...
A small vase of fresh flowers, the occasional photo of loved ones and a pretty rug adds the finishing touches to a bedroom. It helps create that all important intimate atmosphere that buyers are looking for.
