Full Steam Ahead For Another 35 Years!
Proud day as Swindon & Cricklade Railway celebrates big anniversary with new disabled-access carriage
Another milestone in Swindon's proud railway history was marked this weekend with the 35th birthday of the Swindon & Cricklade Railway.
Now the only fully-working memory of a by-gone era of steam and yesteryear in Wiltshire, the railway celebrated the occasion with the launch and first running of a new disabled-access carriage.
Swindon Mayor Nick Martin was on-hand to cut the cake and enjoy the day alongside visitors, the volunteers who run the railway and Michael Hill of the Hills Group, who donated nearly £30,000 to help with the restoration of the carriage.
Dating back to 1959, it has taken 4 years to bring it back to its former glory and was named 'Laura' in honour of Mr Hill's grandmother.
