It was always going to be an extremely competitive match - but a poor performance from Swindon meant the Pirates stole the show.

Winning their second Abbey Stadium victory of the 2008 season, Poole inflicted what many consider to be a major dent in Swindon's own championship ambitions.

The Pirates ripped Swindon apart in the middle sector of the meeting and had roared to a fourteen point lead after heat twelve.

An advantage that a below-par Swindon then failed to eradicate, eventually going down by 9 points.

Mads Korneliussen (5 points), Troy Batchelor (2) and Travis McGowen (0) all the key culprits in the defeat according to Robins' team manager Alun Rossiter.

"I've got no excuses for tonight," he fumed, "Mads, Troy and Travis were appalling in my opinion, and Poole deserved the win."

"There will be harsh words before tomorrow's fixture against Lakeside."
