Howell at Hoylake
Open Championship 2014, Hoylake
Swindon's David Howell finished as the top Englishman in the 143rd Open Golf Championship after a superb final round of four under, 68.
The 39-year-old's eight under total meant the Broome Manor member finished in 15th position, just two shots off a top ten place and an automatic invite back to next year's tournament.
His efforts did mean a cheque, though, of just shy of £74,000.

Howell Eyeing A Top Ten After Third Round 70
19 July 2014
Swindon golf star David Howell is lying in 19th place after the third round of The Open at Royal Liverpool GC at Hoylake.
The Broome Manor member, playing with Justin Rose in a two-tee start, shot a second consecutive two-under round of 70 to finish at four under, twelve shots off the lead held by Rory McIlroy.
But realistically, Howell is only five shots off third place and with a very real chance to record his best performance in an Open since finishing 7th in 2008 at Royal Birkdale.
Howell, the current Dunhill Links Champion, tees off at 1pm on Sunday alongside Stephen Gallagher.
First tee honour
David Howell was given the task of hitting the first ball of the 143rd Open Championship on Thursday morning (pic. below).
Teeing off at 6.25am!
"I set my alarm for 4:15 and I woke up naturally at 4:11, and thought 'Shall I lie in for four more minutes?!' but this is the Open Championship," he said.
"As soon as you wake up, you remember what you're doing, the adrenaline kicks in and you're off and running."
