Time For Plan Bee!

Arkell's head brewer Alex Arkell pays a visit to local Honeybee Conservation Group - WATCH VIDEO

The multi-award winning Bee's Organic from Arkell's Brewery features organically-grown malted barley, hops and, rather unusually, organically-produced honey!

And seeing as the beer has just started to roll out as a keg beer, what better opportunity for Arkell's head brewer Alex Arkell to pay a visit to a local bee conservation group doing vital work right on our doorstep!

Ron Hoskins
The Swindon Honey Conservation Group is a six man team led by 84-year-old Ron Hoskins.

Together they are undertaking important research into why their bee colonies are not adversely affected by a bee mite called Varroa, which has already killed millions of honey bee colonies across the world.

The blood-sucking mite lives on the blood of the baby bee, and if left untreated prevents bees from flying.

Arkell’s head brewer, Alex Arkell, said: “I had a fascinating morning talking to Ron about the group’s bees and we would dearly love to use local Swindon honey in our Bee’s Organic. However, we are audited every year by the Soil Association which has strict criteria and currently we are required to source our organic honey from further away.”

Ron has been keeping bees for 72 years, and the group runs at least two training courses every year for amateur beekeepers. If you'd like to find out more about the Swindon Honey Conservation Group please visit their website via the link below.

Arkell’s Bee’s Organic in keg is available in most Arkell’s pubs now.
