Vegetarian Swindon

It's National Vegetarian Week! Here's our list of the best places to eat in Swindon if you're not partial to meat

If you're a vegetarian then eating out is quite often a very boring affair, and you can probably guess what the veggie dishes in most restaurants will be - Nut Roast et al.

The good news is there's plenty of places in Swindon that offer more than a flaccid lettuce leaf for dinner if you don't eat meat.

NOTE: We cannot guarantee that all the dishes mentioned below are available. Our advice is to call the venue before arriving.

The Fox & Hounds
Wroughton

Ready for the summer ahead, The Fox & Hounds at Wroughton has recently launched a menu, with some appetising vegetarian options included.

Choice from the likes of mushroom carbonara with parmesan shavings and dressed rocket; geese egg omelette with potato & onion and a summer salad, plus beatroot & goats cheese risotto available.

Wagamama
Swindon Designer Outlet

The incredibly popular Wagamamas at the Designer Outlet is host to a number of great vegetarian options including a Yasai Ramen (traditional Japanese omelette with crispy fried silken tofu and mixed mushrooms in a vegetable noodle soup), a variety of tasty noodle dishes and salads.

Chennai Dosa
Swindon town centre

A popular place for vegetarians as their menu lists their non-meat dishes first. Good value we hear too!

Gourmet Burger Kitchen
Regents Place

Not only a haven for meat eaters, you may be surprised to know their Californian homemade bean patty - with mature cheddar, avocado, harissa mayo, crispy onions, relish and salad - is one big hit with vegetarians in Swindon!

The Plough
Badbury, just off Jnct. 15

With an ever-changing specials board, there's always likely to be a number of good quality vegetarian options.

Kings, Swindon
20 At The Kings
Old Town

Head Chef Darren Turner understands that vegetarian diners expect the same quality of food as meat-eaters, which is why his veggie dishes contain only the freshest locally sourced ingredients.

Weighbridge Brewhouse
Swindon

Anthony Windle and his team pride themselves on using only the best seasonal produce to create the superb range of vegetarian dishes on offer.

Please note the Weighbridge Brewhouse menus change regularly, see their website for the latest updates.

The Biplob Tandoori
Old Town

The award-winning chef and managing teams at The Biplob work passionately to create delightful mouthwatering dishes, many of which can be altered to be vegetarian.

Our favourite: Chilli Paneer - Indian cheese stir fried with sweet chilli sauce, onions, green peppers and mixed spices.

Fratello's
Swindon town centre

One of Swindon's favourite Italian family-run restaurants, Fratello's offers a superb selection of Italian food, including vegetarian dishes.

Our favourite: Ravioli Ricotta e Spinaci, egg Ravioli filled with spinach & ricotta cheese.

Greek Olive
Faringdon Road, Swindon

If you're a fan of Greek food, you can't go wrong with the vegetarian options at the Greek Olive on Faringdon Road.

We particularly recommend the vegetarian Moussaka with layers of aubergine, potatoes and vegetables cooked in red sauce and topped with béchamel sauce and cheese! Gorgeous!

The White Horse
Winterbourne Bassett

This charming little pub is situated in the Marlborough Downs, surrounded by beautiful countryside views, making it the perfect place to sit back and relax whilst enjoying their fabulous dedicated vegetarian menu.

Our favourite: Butternut Squash Risotto - Pan fried butternut squash, red onions and risotto rice cooked in stock and white wine finished with cream, parsley and parmesan shavings.

And the best vegetarian breakfast?...

Bit of a tricky one if you can't have any bacon, but we've heard the vegetarian breakfast - with their special vegetarian sausages - at The Olive Tree Cafe at Manor Garden Centre beats a Full English hands down!

Coming soon...

We've picked up on the veggie grapevine that the people behind the Triple Two Coffee Bar in The Brunel Centre will soon be opening a new café in Havelock Street serving predominantly vegetarian and vegan food. Sounds interesting!
