Wakeboarding - a SwindonWeb adventure
Nothing to do in Swindon? Think again!
If you have seen Liz and I in previous SwindonWeb adventures you know that balance is not our speciality – so when our boss mentioned wakeboarding was next on our list to try our first reaction was a bit apprehensive.
But with the sun shining and the beautiful surroundings of South Cerney lakes we thought how hard can holding on to a rope whilst getting a tan be?
But the first task wasn’t even contemplating the water – but that of getting into a wet suit…
But putting on our life jackets and hard hats we felt ready to take on the water Will our instructor decided knee boards would be the first test to get use to balance and the feel of the zip wire… And that’s pretty much when the fear kicked in…
If we were struggling to find our way on dry land, how would we fare on water, being pulled along at around 30 kilometres per hour?
But there was no time to debate this as it was time to have a go – as Will directed us to the bank and showed us exactly what to do we were off…
Folding our arms close in to our chest on take off and then keeping our heads up we got the confidence to tackle the corners.
To say it was like a duck to water would probably be the wrong impression, but would we give up? No way! We’re SwindonWeb girls after all!
So after we managed the route the whole way round we felt unstoppable! Literally Until the words from Will of… ’Ready to try standing up?’ Oh yea forgot we had to do that!
A change of board and discovering if we were left or right leg dominant it was time to try standing up.
Now this didn’t go well!
But after about ten attempts, we did it!
Not only had we stood up we managed to stay up for at least a minute. But to say we were tired was not the word – we were knackered! A great sport for legs bums and tums!
Even in the short time we were in the water we felt elated – and this was one sport we would definitely do again!
