WAITING GAME CONTINUES
Town fans wait eagerly for news

They say no news is good news, but surely in the case of Swindon Town any news would be gratefully received.

After a tense day yesterday, expectant Swindon Town fans are still on tender hooks for news on the takeover.

Jeremy Wray, a key member of Fitton's consortium, assured fans that it would go through today, and to be patient.

So as every hour goes by, we wait for news on the future of our club.

TAKE-OVER LATEST
Fitton talks 'back on'

The take-over saga at the County Ground took another twist this afternoon with news that the Andrew Fitton led consortium have had further meetings with the club's major shareholder the Wills family.

Despite news yesterday that the deal was 'dead in the water' it appears that there is still a distinct possibility that a deal can still be reached - ensuring that the club doesn't fold.

Although nothing has been agreed or signed, Mr Fitton was happy to admit that 'excellent progress' had been made during a lunch meeting with Sir Seton Wills, James Wills and Mike Diamandis.

This news will hopefully give thousands of devastated Town fans a glimmer of hope - one that yesterday afternoon seemed highly unlikely.

The future of Swindon Town Football Club is hanging by a thread today, with news that the proposed takeover of the club by Andrew Fitton has collapsed.

It is understood that the Ramsbury-based businessman has been unable to finalise details to take control at the County Ground due to a major snag.

The problem is believed to revolve around the issue of the ownership of any potential stadium re-development rights in the future.

With mounting debts and the threat of a winding-up order at the High Court looming large, the club's board are doing everything in their power to secure funding to ensure the immediate future of the club and avoid the threat of closure.

The members of the board are keen to assure fans that the break-down in talks is solely between the major shareholder and the consortium, and has nothing to do with the directors.

The next 24 hours will be a crucial period for the club and fans will no doubt be desperate to find out what the future has in store for the beleaguered club.

Weekly press call

With all the off-field issues surrounding the club, Dave Byrne and Ady Williams were keen to talk about football matters in our weekly video interview.

Following the Town's dismal performance against Carlisle, Byrne and Williams are hoping the players will show a bit more desire against Southend this coming Saturday.

"The players that are given the shirts will have to show they are willing to fight for the cause and wear it with pride," said a defiant Byrne.

But with all the injuries and the impending suspensions, the managers know that it's a case of 'going with what we've got' for the trip to Roots Hall.

"We have got 11 or 12 players unavailable, 5 or 6 of whom would be in the starting line-up, and that's a massive hole to fill," added Williams, "but I'm looking forward to seeing the response from the lads."

""The members of the board are keen to assure fans that the break-down in talks is solely between the major shareholder and the consortium, and has nothing to do with the directors." So, it even looks like the board are distancing themselves from Wills, Diamandis & Co, and putting the blame squarely in their court! Diamandis will get his wish and bury this club. As the Wills' Financial Adviser he is obviously trying to get the best deal for his client (and probably himself), but we all know what FA stands for and with the club about to fold, that's what he'll get. Well done Diamandis, you have killed our club! I hope you're ******* pleased with yourself. STFC - RIP 2007"

"Who'd be a town fan on a day like today. I feel physically sick at the thought of how we must look to the rest of the world. Absolute F**cking prats that's how. How in god's name have the town board turned down Mr Fitton?!!! How? We're a laughing stock. And this notion that it's a clever ploy to gte the board to chivvy things along is just B****cks. He's taken one look at what the board are really like and walked away. Any sane, rational, clear-thinking businessman would do the same. We are really in the sh*t now."

"How long will the club let this go on??"

"I'd take league two and being in existance than burial !"

"It's about time the board told us loyal fans the truth about this whole takeover scenario. What a shambles."
