Town faithful still queued up for season tickets despite accepting their team was down [see video above].

 

The harsh reality of League Two football almost a certainty after the Robins failed to win for the 18th consecutive game leaving them six points - 7 with goal difference - from safety, with just six games to go.

 

Hartlepool went ahead after Phil Smith gifted Evan Horwood an easy goal when his throw to Paul Caddis was intercepted.

 

Smith only playing after a warm-up back injury to Dave Lucas forced a change just before kick-off.

 

But when the visitors were reduced to ten men following a two-footed tackle on Paul Caddis from Gary Liddle, Swindon battled back.

 

Matt Ritchie eventually finding the net and the equaliser for Town with a strong header just after the hour.

 

And had the Hartlepool keeper not made three fine saves as Town pressed desperately for a winner, the mood at the final whistle might have lifted.

 

"I don't know how we didn't win it," commented Paul Hart, "but we just can't score when we need to."
