Town fans are probably wishing this game had remained postponed after a disappointing afternoon at Whaddon Road.

 

After a bright start in which McCormack brushed the post and Billy Bodin shot agonisingly wide, Swindon's performance fizzled out after 25 minutes and Cheltenham gradually took control.

 

The decisive goal of the game arrived just minutes into the second-half when Steve Elliott was allowed to head home a corner.

 

Penalties

 

Town's best chances for a reply came from two penalty shouts; the first when Bodin looked clearly fouled with a sight of goal, the second when Alan Connell was impeded - but referee Craig Pawson waved play-on on both occasions much to the disgust of Swindon's contingent of 1,600 travelling fans.

 

And despite the home side being reduced to ten men with eight minutes to go when James Spencer was sent-off, Cheltenham ran out comfortable winners.

 

"We win together and we lose together. We will learn from today," manager Paolo Di Canio said.
