Tommy Miller ballooned a penalty over the bar as Town settled for a point.

 

Miller: nightmare debut

The debut midfielder missed Swindon's best chance on 70 minutes as his spot-kick ended up nearer the North Sea than the Hartlepool net, with the irony of normal penalty-taker Paul Caddis's absence not lost on Town's five hundred fans who made the 540 mile round trip.

 

The wasted opportunity came mid-way through Swindon's best period, as the home side faded in a game they largely dominated. Goalkeeper Wes Foderingham easily Town's busiest player as Hartlepool piled on the pressure in the second-half.

 

But after Town survived a header that hit the post, it was Ritchie and De Vita who started enjoying possession with Swindon's better fitness clearly showing.

 

And had Andy Williams not made a poor decision with Luke Rooney in space to shoot, the Robins could have snatched the points.

 

Swindon draw Oxford in the JPT

 

Town will travel to arch-rivals Oxford United at the begiining of September in the first round of the Johnstone Paint Trophy.
