BREAKING: Nile Ranger Cleared Of Rape 

Swindon striker thanks Club after being found not guilty at Newcastle Crown Court

  

The 22-year-old had been charged with raping a woman at the Carlton Hotel in Jesmond, near Newcastle, in January last year.

 

But after hearing the evidence in a week-long trial at Newcastle Crown Court, the jury found Ranger not guilty.

On hearing the verdict, Ranger tore off his tie before saying 'thank God for that' and uttering the words 'what a joke'. 

 

Currently injured with a hamstring tear, the Town striker - by many considered to be Swindon's best player - is out for the rest of the season.

 

One year deal

 

Ranger controversially signed for Swindon on 16 August 2013 on a one-year deal with the rape trial pending. The club has an option to extend his stay at the County Ground for another year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved. My legal team, my family and everyone else supporting me. I am glad the right verdict came out in court that I am innocent, have always been innocent and have been proven to be innocent. These legal proceedings have played an integral part of my life and also my career. I am now solely focused on working hard and getting myself where I should. I would like to thank Swindon Town FC for giving me a chance at a vital time to progress, I cannot thank them enough for their support.
