Swindon Pay the Penalty 

Swindon Town suffer a 2-1 defeat at the County Ground to Championship outfit Leeds Utd

There are a lot of good things to be said about Swindon Town this pre-season, but silly mistakes were to prove costly against Leeds Utd at the County Ground last night.

 

It was a largely uneventful first 45 minutes with neither team looking to make too many inroads into the opposition penalty box.

 

However, a breakthrough did come for Leeds Utd with 15 minutes on the clock, with Wales international Steve Morison slotting home in the 6 yard box after some good work from Souleymane Doukara.

 

Town looked threatening on the break, and drew level from a corner on the 31st minute. Yaser Kasim floated the dead ball into the box, with Michael Smith eventually putting the ball into the back of the net with a clever volley. 

 

It wasn't to last long though. A poor cross-field ball from Nathan Thompson was intercepted and a quick counter led to Swindon keeper Wes Foderingham bringing down the speedy Doukara. The resulting penalty was slotted away by Rudy Austin.

 

A somewhat disappointing evening for Town then, but they have a chance to put that to bed on Saturday with a hastily arranged match against an Aston Villa XI! Full details on the Swindon Town website.
