RESULT: Swindon Town 3 Scunthorpe 1
Town scorers: Luongo 3, Smith (2) 15, 14
Scunthorpe scorer: Madden 20
Sorry, no post-match SWTV today. Back for the next home game.
Town manager Mark Cooper was delighted with a first-day win but admitted that there was still 'work to do in defence' after seeing his players make the best possible start to the new season.
"Josh Lelan and Jordan Turnball are both young players who haven't been long together in the back three, so there is still room for improvement," the manager said.
"But overall I'm very pleased. It's always nice to start with three points."
Perfect start
Town were two-nil up after Australian World Cup squad member Massimo Luongo struck after only three minutes, followed by Michael Smith's first.
And despite Paddy Madden converting one of many chances for the visitors, Smith again restored Town's two goal advantage with a deflection just before half-time.
The highlight for many, though, was the 'handbags' altercation late-on between Marcus Williams and Nathan Thompson which saw the Scunthorpe defender shown a straight red for violent conduct.
