Swindon 2 Rochdale 3
SkyBet League One
RESULT: Swindon Town 2 Rochdale 3
Swindon scorers: Rodgers 35, Smith 77
Rochdale scorers: Lund 49, Vincenti 60, Hery 90 It was heartbreak for Swindon Town last night as their impressive nine-game unbeaten run in the league came to an end against mid-table Rochdale.
The night had started well for the home side.
Anton Rodgers (son of Liverpool manager Brendan) was awarded his first league start of the season, and he rewarded manager Mark Coopers faith on 35 minutes by netting his first goal for the club.
The second half however saw Town's defensive frailties come to the fore. Rochdale equalising shortly after the restart, with the unmarked Matty Lund having all the time in the world to place his header in the bottom corner of the net.
Bad turned to worse just 10 minutes later, Peter Vincenti rising high to nod home from defender Michael Rose's corner.
Despite Town restoring parity on 77 minutes through Michael Smith's cheeky flick, it was to be a hattrick of deadly headers for Rochdale.
Bastien Hery sending the away fans into raptures as he rose to meet Smith's corner at the near post, and somehow steering the ball into the net.
Town manager Mark Cooper commented "We looked very frail defensively. Every time a ball came in our box from a long ball or a cross we looked as though we might concede."
"We had some good performances, but defensively - not good enough"
