Swindon 1 Preston 0
SkyBet League One
RESULT: Swindon Town 1 Preston North End 0
Swindon scorer: Williams 84
Andy Williams came off the bench to send Town back up to third in League One.
The substitute striker rose above the Preston defence to nod home the winner with just six minutes to go to round off a performance Mark Cooper described as 'outstanding'.
The only disappointment on the night being the low attendance of just 6,656 witnessing Town's fine performance, a number which chairman Lee Power warned was below the club's break-even of 7,500.
"I'm baffled," Power frankly admitted, "we've put a team together that everyone should be proud of but they are still not coming. We've lost money tonight.
"And if that continues I may have to consider selling players in January to stop putting this club in jeopardy.
"If there's anyone out there who hasn't been for a few years, come and taste and sample it and I'm sure you'll come back."
