RESULT: Swindon Town 1 Bristol City 0
Swindon scorer: Smith 78
Town bounced back from their FA Cup humiliation last week to record a rousing derby win against a 10-man City.
Michael Smith's goal in the 78th minute sealed a crucial win in front of a packed County Ground to send Swindon up to second in League One.
The defeat was the first of the season for Swindon's M4 rivals and League leaders, and made even easier after City's captain Wade Elliott was shown a straight red after only three minutes following an altercation with Jack Stephens.
But after re-grouping and sitting back, the visitors frustrated Mark Cooper's men - crucially missing Kasim & Luongo on international duty - for the rest of the first half despite having Town having all the possession.
That changed after the break, however, as Swindon put a tiring City to the sword with some slick passing and excellent movement up front.
And after Nathan Byrne rattled the crossbar and Obika also went close, it was left to Michael Smith to send the Town End in to raptures with a superbly well taken 'Ricky Villa-esqe' dribble & goal with 12 minutes to go.
"It's been a long week," Mark Cooper admitted, after celebrating on the pitch with his players after the final whistle, "but we've shown today what a great group of players we have here at this club and we thoroughly deserved it."
