Another Year In Division 3
League One Play-Off Final
Wembley Stadium
RESULT: Preston North End 4 Swindon Town 0
Preston scorers: Beckford (3) 3, 44, 57; Huntington 13
Jermaine Beckford crushed Swindon's Championship dream as the new Wembley hoodoo struck again.
The ex-Premiership Preston striker muscled his way to a hat-trick against a three-man Town defence that struggled all day to contain him.
The first came after only three minutes when Nathan Thompson first fouled Beckford and then failed to get ahead of him at the far post when the free-kick was delivered.
The agony of going behind more than doubled for the Swindon captain as he was stretchered off with a game-ending hamstring injury.
But when Huntingdon doubled the lead before the quarter-hour and then helped Beckford make it 3-0 just before half-time, Town fans knew it just wasn't going to be their day.
The final nail in the coffin came from Beckford again in the second-half, making the last half-hour one to forget - and the realisation for all the Town faithful of yet another year in League One.
