Swindon Town fell to a second consecutive pre-season defeat this afternoon following a visit from Premier League giants Everton.

 

The blue half of Liverpool brought a strong squad to the County Ground with the likes of Tim Howard, Phil Jagielka, Steven Pienaar and Romelu Lukaku all lining up against Mark Cooper's men.

 

If the game appeared to be a bit of a mismatch on paper, it certainly wasn't evident on the pitch - at least initially! 

 

Swindon kept the ball well in the opening 45 minutes, with Roberto Martinez's tricky frontline limited to only a handful of chances.

 

The second half was an entirely different story, and the introduction of Belgian Kevin Mirallas gave Everton just the spark they were looking for.

The 27-year-old's two quick-fire goals shortly after half-time left Swindon with it all to do, but despite a couple of late chances from Jon Obika for the home side it was Everton that compounded Town's misery with further goals from Romelu Lukaku and the bright looking Conor McAleny.

 

Town manager Mark Cooper later commented "For an hour I thought it was a competitive game. It became a bit disrupted after all the changes but it was a good exercise. We played well in patches."
