It's safe to say that the County Ground hasn't been a stranger to the glitz and glamour of the Premier League this pre-season, having already welcomed the likes of West Brom, Aston Villa and Everton.

 

And it was the turn of Everton's Merseyside neighbours to play on the hallowed Swindon turf this afternoon, boasting the likes of £32.5 million man Christian Benteke and £29 million signing Roberto Firmino.

 

But to Swindon's great credit, they never once looked over-awed in front of a sell-out crowd of over 14,591 - going toe to toe with the Premier League giants for most of the match.

 

It was always going to be a moment of class to break the deadlock, and Christian Benteke was happy to provide.

 

Taking the ball on his chest, the former Aston Villa man turned and hit the sweetest of volleys leaving keeper Vigouroux no time to react.

Further chances fell to the visitors, but it was to be the bright looking Jon Obika to strike next - curling home a leveller with 30 minutes left on the clock.

 

Anton Rodgers (son of Liverpool manager Brendan) came close to putting the Robins ahead from a freekick, but it was 18-year old Liverpool substitute Sheyi Ojo who had the final say - racing onto a through ball over the top and unleashing a rasping shot that proved too much to handle for the Town keeper.

 

Town manager Mark Cooper later commented "In patches today, we showed what we can do with a strong Liverpool team.

 

As a unit we've looked a good team. The ball retention was good. We scored a really good goal to level it up so I'm pleased."
