Arise, King Charles!
Town hero Austin is back at The County Ground for big promotion push
Just like the post, Town fans are celebrating tonight after their big Christmas present finally arrived - Charlie Austin in a Swindon shirt.
The 33-year-old striker signed on the dotted line too late for Town's rousing trip to Northampton last night but should be fit for their new year clash at Colchester on Jan 1st. His debut surely marking what every Swindon fan wants to see in 2023 - a proper promotion push to League One. In his first stint for the Robins after signing from non-League Poole Town, he scored 37 times in 65 appearances before leaving to join Burnley for a reported £2 million.
He has since played for a number of high profile clubs at the highest level including netting 38 times in the Premier League. New chapter "I did have other offers elsewhere," he told BBC Radio Wiltshire, "but this is the one where I wanted to be." "It's a new chapter for me. I'm a different person to the one they signed all those years ago. "When I first came through the doors, I was like a rabbit in the headlights but I'm now a lot more experienced. I've been fortunate enough to have travelled, to have seen the world, seen the game and come up against some of the word's best players. "I'm back where it all began."
Austin arrives at The County Ground with Town in 5th place in League Two after a superb 2-1 away win at Northampton on Thursday night. |
