Christmas crisis

Managerless Town in turmoil after losing relegation six-pointer

Coca-Cola League One

RESULT: Swindon Town 2 Yeovil 3

Town scorers: Timlin 45+2, JP McGovern 47
Yeovil scorers: Alcock 10, Peltier 28, Ifil (OG) 72

Swindon Town face a Christmas crisis tonight after a defeat that leaves them well and truly in a relegation scrap - and the wrath of frustrated fans at the final whistle.

A result made worse by the possible long-term loss of captain Hasney Aljofree, who limped off in the first-half with suspected knee ligament damage.

Two-nil down after twenty-eight minutes, when defensive lapses let in Alcock to head home, then Peltier to avoid the off-side trap, Swindon gave themselves a lifeline with a stoppage-time free-kick from Michael Timlin.

A goal that inspired the Town players to besiege the Yeovil goal just after half-time - and level matters just three minutes into the second-half through a JP McGovern volley.

Domination that lasted until the 72nd minute before Swindon shot themselves in the foot once again.

This time another back-four mix up when an innocuous ball into the box ended up in the back of the Town net via the boot of a confused Jerel Ifil.

Only a Tranmere goal in injury-time against Brighton stopping Town from falling into the bottom four for Christmas.
