Corr to stay after fitness levels stun Town bosses

Barry Corr Swindon Striker
Here to stay:
Swindon striker Barry Corr
With the transfer window closing on Monday (01 September 2008) and rumours flying about Barry Corr leaving, Maurice Malpas was keen to set the record straight.

“Barry Corr will be staying,” Maurice confirmed.

“He performed well against Charlton last night with his fitness coming on in leaps and bounds since previous weeks.”

“If he continues to show the same improvement in the next few reserves games he won’t be far away to be considered for a first team place.

“So come Monday it looks like we will have the same squad.”

Weekend squad

So with five strikers (Barry Corr, Lee Peacock, Simon Cox, Billy Paynter and Blair Sturrock) to choose from, Maurice has a hard decision on deciding who he plays up-front.

“It’s part and parcel of the job. I prefer to sit on Friday night/ Saturday morning worrying about whom to pick for the team, rather than it being forced down your throat.”

“We realise it’s difficult to play in a reserve game – but if they show the right attitude they will get their chance, get their jersey and then they can fight to keep it.”

“I would never say I’m playing the best team at the moment because different games bring different players, but I am happy with the team.”

"There are one or two players we need to get more out of – and further down the road if we need to bring players in we can do that – maybe on loan, but we're trying to stay away from that at the moment.”

MK Dons

“We have to go to MK on Saturday and show a good performance – we only have to look back to a few games to realise that we have winning potential."

“They are a confident team because of promotion last year – but nothing we should worry about. If we can go play like we can play we are confident that we can take something from it.”
