Flying high!:
Christian Roberts bagged the winner
just after the break
A stunning solo effort from Welsh wizard Christian Roberts was enough to secure all three points against struggling Luton and continue Swindon's impressive 8 game unbeaten run in the league.

It was double delight for Town as the youth team overcame their Premiership counterparts Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the F.A. Youth Cup.

Boss Maurice Malpas handed a debut to latest signing Pat Kanyuka who came in for the suspended Jerel Iffel and Roberts came in for Michael Pook on the right of midfield.

Town came firing out the blocks and had much the better of the opening exchanges, striker Moses Ashikodi having the best opportunity of the first-half, as his neat turn gave him a clear sight of goal but he lost his composure and fired well over from only 8 yards.

Despite dominating, Town were unable to find the cutting edge that would have given them a deserved lead going into the break.

Again as the second-half got under way it was the visitors who started brightest and were threatening the Luton goal within 50 seconds of the re-start.

Swindon finally broke the deadlock on 52 minutes when the dangerous Roberts picked the ball up on the half-way line before ghosting past a number of players and smashed the ball past a helpless Dean Brill in the Luton Goal.

Right on target

The lively Anthony McNamee was replaced on the hour mark by Sofi Zaaboub who returned following his injury scare at Barnet last Tuesday.

However, despite continuing to dominate Town were unable to find the second goal that would have put the game beyond Luton, who hardly managed to trouble Swindon even with the introduction of former Town hero Sam Parkin at half-time.

As the game headed into the last ten minutes the visitors lost skipper Hasney Aljofree to a head injury but managed to see out the game, despite an amazing seven minutes of overtime allowed by referee Carl Boyeson.

The comfortable win lifts Swindon up a place in the table to 10th place, still with two games in hand on a number of play-off rivals.

Up next for Town is a tough test at home to play-off rivals Northampton Town on Saturday, who only sit one point and one place below them in the league table.
