Coca-Cola League One
RESULT: Swindon Town 3 Hereford United 0
Town scorers: Cox (2) 29, 46; Paynter 76
Danny Wilson always said his team would need 'that little bit of luck' to get the results Swindon deserve - and today they got it.
Simon Cox's crucial second goal just after half-time, one that everyone at the County Ground agreed was offside, including the Town manager himself.
"If I was the opposing manager I'd be dreadfully disappointed with the decision, because I thought it was offside. And it killed the game for them.
"It really knocked the stuffing out of Hereford, who never recovered from it. But we've been on the receiving end of similiar decisions this year, and that's the way football goes sometimes."
"Overall we thoroughly deserved it, though, and the scoreline was a fair reflection of our domination and excellent defensive work."
The controversial goal, just a minute into the second-half, doubled Town's lead after Cox had earlier settled the nerves on the half-hour.
The in-form striker making it number 23 of the season with a clinical header after some good work on the wing from Anthony McNamee.
Town on the whole managing to restrict the visitors to a long-ball game that hardly troubled the back four, led once again by another strong performance from Gordon Greer.
The game eventually made safe when Billy Paynter earned just reward for his hardworking efforts with a low finish on 76 minutes.
The win keeps Town just above the bottom four, on the same number of points as Northamption (4-0 winners today) who Swindon face on Tuesday night.
