It was revealed today that David Byrne has been appointed head of player development at Swindon Town.
The former County Ground assistant manager's new role encompasses the club's centre of excellence, youth team and reserve team.
Byrne stated that he wants the new role to provide a good basis of home grown players for the future.
"David Byrne, in his time at Swindon Town has shown himself as having a real talent in this area," said Andrew Fitton, chairman Swindon Town Football Club.
"He has been crucially involved in the identification and development of players such as Ben Tozer, Sean Morrison, Callum Kennedy and in the recruitment of players such as Simon Cox, so it was an ideal position for him."
"Given that we are reducing our squad size and looking to integrate more youth players in the senior system the combination of the role with that of looking after the reserve team is necessary," commented Byrne.
