Gillingham 5 Swindon 0

Defensive woes and no goals equals a disasterous start to the season

Coca-Cola League One

RESULT: Gillingham 5 Swindon Town 0

Scorers: Jackson (3) 51, 85, 87; Bentley 12, Miller 72

The new season may only be one game old, but Town fans are already fearing the worst after this shocking performance.

A second-half capitulation where Gillingham scored four times - and could have had more - meant a humiliated Swindon recorded their worst-ever opening day result and Town players received a barrage of abuse from travelling supporters as they left the pitch.

"It couldn't have been much worse," commented a clearly puzzled Danny Wilson.

Swindon's only chance a glancing header from lone striker Billy Paynter during the first half.

NEXT GAME: Milton Keynes Dons (H)
Carling Cup 1st Round
