Christmas Beauty

Katie Smith gives us a simple guide to the perfect Christmas beauty look

The date has been set and the party outfit has been purchased, but you can’t forget about your Christmas beauty essentials! It’s time to raid the shelves of Superdrug, Boots and Bodycare and get that perfect Christmas look.

Preparation

Always make sure you have the correct brushes to hand.

A lot of you will have most of these brushes to hand but if not Boots do an excellent range of cheap to expensive brushes.

Always make sure you’re brushes are clean. Use some warm water to wash through and then leave for a few days to dry.

Top Tips:

1. Always moisturize or use primer before applying foundation to give a more even complexion.

2. Before rubbing your concealer in, leave it to warm on your face slightly before using a brush to blend it in. It makes it easier to rub in and spread across the effected area.

3. Don’t just focus on the apples of the cheeks, brush your blusher in an upwards motion towards the outer corners of your eyes to help define your cheek bones

4. When applying bronzer, don’t just apply it to your cheeks. Apply it in a ‘B’ shape on the left cheek and a backwards ‘B’ on the right. This gives you a more natural sun kissed look.

5. Choose 1 feature of your face to focus on, you don’t want to make your face look too made up. Either select your eyes or your lips to stand out amongst the rest.

Focus on EYES

If you want to choose your eyes to stand out, then one of the most dramatic and eye catching effects is the smokey eyes, but we are going to put a Christmas effect on it. For this you will need:

17 smokey eye trio shadow

Girls Aloud false eyelashes-by Nadine

Models Own glitter eyeliner

Gosh Bombastic mascara

1. Start with the eye shadow. With this trio, start with the lightest colour first and apply across the whole lid all the way up until your reach the brow bone. Also apply a little light shadow to the corner of the eye, it helps to make your eye’s look brighter.

Using the next darkest shade, apply across just half the eyelid towards the outer section of your eye. Finally use the darkest colour and apply it to the outer corner, drawing inwards a little if you need to. (Use finger to blend if required.)

2. Next, open the false eyelashes. This style is natural but long looking and adds to an extra bit of glamour. Apply the glue supplied along the whole length of the top of the eyelash, leave for a few seconds so it becomes a bit tacky before applying them the to the very top of your own eyelashes.

This is a fiddly process, so maybe practice a few times before the big night. The eyelashes can be used more than once.

3. The eyeliner has a shimmer in it to add some more sparkle. Like using black anywhere, it makes things look smaller, and you want your eyes to look larger. So, why not be daring and look at the colours of your eyes and choose an eyeliner to match. (If you have brown eyes, gold is a good colour to go for.)

Apply the liner liberally across the bottom lid to make your eyes pop.

4. Finally add some mascara to both your fake lashes and bottom to give you a more intense look.

Focus on LIPS

Lips are sensuous and luscious, so if this is what you want to accentuate then the tools you will need are:

MUA Lip liner softly lined

Barry M lipstick

2true plumptuous lipgloss

1. Apply the lip liner as close to the edge of your lips as possible. Once you have finished, use the lip liner to colour in your lips. This will help to keep your lips staying colourful all night long.

2. Apply the lipstick. Red is the typical dramatic and daring colour to go for, but take into consideration your outfit. If you are wearing pink-red lips are a no go zone. If you’re feeling really dangerous why not go slightly gothic with a deep purple coloured lipstick.

3. Finally add a touch of plumping gloss over the top to make your lips stand out even more. So get the mistletoe at the ready because kisses will be coming your way.

Hopefully, these tops tips will help you along your way to become a Christmas beauty queen in no time. Remember, practice makes perfect!
