O'Grady's

Why we recommend this new café, bar and grill in Gorse Hill

Traditional English food – that’s how I would sum up the newly opened café bar and grill O’Grady’s.

I really like this place - it’s a refreshing little cafe and instantly has a warm welcome feeling when you step through the door, plus the food is home cooked and very tasty.

Situated in Gorse Hill, the cafe definitely stands out amongst the endless fried chicken and kebab shops, and is great to either drop in for a coffee or better still their homemade soup, a salad or even a steak in the evening.

They offer a vast breakfast menu in the morning and then a range of paninis, jacket potatoes and salads for lunch, and then later a huge variety old-style cooking.

A few examples of their light meals and starters include:

Goats cheese and onion tart with salad leaves and chutney £4.50
Half rack of barbeque ribs served with chunk of crusty bread £4.50 Spicy Chicken wings served with coleslaw and a chunk of crusty bread £4.50

Fully licensed, O'Grady's is also the perfect place to go for a meal in the evening without having to deal with a pub environment.

It’s a family run business; husband Alan is in the kitchen and wife Elaine front of house, so you truly get the customer care here. And what stood out was their attention to detail.

Instead of mints they give you their homemade chocolate truffles (which you can purchase) and their food is served in good size portions with flavours that you remember from your childhood.

I’ll definitely be going there again just to have one of their steaks – extra mature British beef all served with Alan’s triple cooked chips, jacket potato or mash with salad and coleslaw or egg, tomatoes and mushrooms – and I recommend you do too.
