New Hope for Cancer Girl Tami

Determined Swindon-girl hopes to battle cancer

Swindon girl Tami Brown, 27 from Abbey Meads, has been battling Cancer for the last 7 years and despite being told that it's terminal last summer, she's not giving up.

Tami is raising money to be able to try out an alternative therapy called High-Dose Intravenous Vitamin C Therapy, which has had lots of reported success in the US and New Zealand.

"I've done months of research into this new treatment since I heard about it before Christmas. It's by no means a definite cure and may just extend my life but the theory and positive success stories suggest it could work, and that's good enough for me to want to give it a go", said Tami.

The treatment is based on an intravenous infusions of pharmacological dose vitamin C, the equivalent of 500 oranges per infusion. "We all know vitamin C is good for us. In very high doses through, vitamin C produces hydrogen peroxide, which is exclusively damaging to cancer cells. If you can maintain a high level in the blood, it has a chance of reducing or at least stabilising the cancer" said Tami.

Over the last 7 years Tami has had colon cancer, which then spread to her liver, abdomen and recently lungs. She's been through 32 sessions of chemo, 5 session of radiation and countless drugs over the last 7 years.

"I'm so thankful for all the conventional treatment I've received", she said, "I would not be alive today if it weren't for the cancer treatments that have saved my life on several occasions, and the staff at GWH were amazing".

Doctors have now, given up hope of a cure with the spread of her cancer to the lungs, but have offered Tami more chemo. "I have such horrible side effects to chemo and it destroys my quality of life so I cant go through with it again, I have to try something else".

Help Tami reach her goal

Tami has set up a website (see link below) to give people more information on her story, the treatment and keep them up to date with progress. The treatment is not fundable through the NHS, so Tami is having to raise the £5,000 herself to pay for it.

"Since I launched my JustGiving page, I've had such touching messages of support and encouragement from people it's amazing. I'm very thankful to everyone who has donated, I'm so overwhelmed."

Tami is being supported by the charity Yes To Life, who uniquely helps terminally ill patients access fundraising money to pay for treatment.

When asked why she is trying this new treatment she said, "I’m not prepared to end this life right now, I’ve got so much more to give and so much to live for. I have dreams and ambitions still to come true. I want to have a chance at experiencing all that life can offer me and theres so much I want to give back to the world."
