Swindon shows its support for Armed Forces Day

Swindon Joins Thousands to Fly the Flag for Armed Forces Day

Swindon Town Centre joined hundreds of towns and cities throughout the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man in raising a unique flag to support Britain's annual Armed Forces Day.

Flags were flown the length and breadth of the country from the Shetland Islands to Land’s End and from Lowestoft (England’s most easterly point) to the Scilly Isles.

Swindon’s flag raising ceremony held at Wharf Green next to the Big Screen in Swindon Town Centre took place at 10.30am.
Simon Jackson, CEO of inSwindon, with the help from the Mayor, Councillor Ray Ballmann, and the Swindon Sea Cadets, hosted the this event and welcomed the support of Veterans, Members of the Armed Forces and the people of Swindon.

In addition to all the towns and cities celebrating Armed Forces Week, members of the public, businesses, schools were all encouraged to fly their official Armed Forces Day flags to join the celebrations to honour Britain’s Armed Forces – past, present and future.

The specially designed flags, based on the Union Jack, were raised together from 10.30am on Monday 20 June, in ceremonies across the country.

This marks the official launch for the national Armed Forces Week.
