18 soldiers from the Swindon Territorial Army, A Squadron (RWY) Royal Yeomanry have received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medals for their TA services – a new medal given to members of the armed services who have served five years or more in the regular or reserves.
They were awarded by Brigadier Simon Brooks-Ward LVO OBE TD, the Deputy Commander of 3 Div. He was accompanied by the Hon. Colonel of the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry Col. James Arkell TD DL at a presentation evening at the TA Swindon HQ near Faringdon Park.
16 of the 18 soldiers have been on operational service in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Iraq and Cyprus and all returned safely from tour. A Sqn currently have one Officer on deployment in Afghanistan with 12 planning to mobilise in November this year.
