Taking Pride in Swindon!
Locals give up their Sunday to give Old Town a spring clean
Old Town in Swindon was given a spruce up this afternoon thanks to the hard graft of over seventy-five volunteers.
The Pipers Way Residents Association [PaRa] organised the big clean up event, which comprised of flower bed planting, weeding, graffiti removal and litter picking in Devizes Road and Newport Street.
Those helping included local residents and councillors, policemen, the vicar of Christchurch, scouts and Old Town shop & business owners (who also made financial donations).
South Swindon MP Robert Buckland also got his hands dirty cleaning the bus stop area near the Old Town Co-Op alongside his son.
"It's been a quite fantastic effort," said Carole Bent of PaRa, who helped co-ordinate the day.
"Thank you to everyone who turned up to help today, especially on a Sunday. Hopefully this will lead to a longer programme of improvements and events in support of our Old Town, with the potential of something positive happening on a regular basis."
