Cracknell Supports Parkinson's Week in Swindon
Olympic rowing champion & possible Swindon MEP speaks to SWTV at Library launch - INTERVIEW
Double Olympic rowing gold medalist James Cracknell OBE joined South Swindon MP Robert Buckland at Swindon Central Library on Monday to mark the start of Parkinson’s Awareness Week in Swindon.
SWTV spoke to him about his support for the cause & his current campaign to become Swindon's European Member of Parliament.
Cracknell, who himself suffered a brain injury in 2010 during a cycling endurance race, was there to support Dave Logan, vice chair of the Swindon & District Branch of Parkinson’s UK, who is undertaking a Swim Challenge.
Logan (interview below) is swimming the equivalent of the distance from England to France - 34km - to raise funds for a new Balance & Exercise Class in Swindon which is set to cost the Branch just over £5000pa.
Week of events
The Swindon & District Branch has a busy week of events planned to help promote awareness in the area and the event at the Library is just one.
Robert Buckland MP said, “I’m delighted that James Cracknell, a sporting hero and a candidate in the forthcoming Euro elections, has joined me in Swindon for what is a very important week.
"We’ll be supporting Dave Logan in his swim challenge which only has a few km left to go. This is a fantastic cause and I am happy to do anything I can to raise awareness”..
