Prince Edward leaves HIVE buzzing

Wroughton Airfield welcomed a royal guest for the grand opening of the University of Bath's new research building - SEE PICS

Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and Chancellor of the University of Bath was in the region yesterday to launch the Universitys new state-of-the-art research facility at Wroughton Airfield.

Known as The HIVE, the building enables researchers and construction professionals from across the world to explore and develop innovative building materials and construction systems.

The Park is the only facility of its kind in the UK, and provides a real-world environment to conduct tests that are not possible within a laboratory.

Dr Mike Lawrence, Director of the Building Research Park said: “Finding new, sustainable methods of construction – properly tested in a real building such as the HIVE – is essential if the UK is to lead the way in low carbon homes and meet challenging emissions targets.”
