Are You A Cut Above The Rest?

The Summer Youth Project is on the look out for talented young black performers for a new production of Hairspray

Hairspray
20-23 August 2015
The Wyvern Theatre will be bringing the big, fat Broadway hit Hairspray to the Theatre for its 21st Summer Youth Project.

And this year, the Theatre is especially looking for talented young black performers aged between 9-21 to help bring the production to life!

April Auditions

Auditions will be held on Sunday 19 April 2015 for the show which takes to the stage at the Wyvern from Thursday 20 August to Sunday 23 August this Summer.

Amongst the characters to be cast are Motormouth Maybelle, owner of a downtown record shop and the host one day a week on The Corny Collins Show, self-described as ‘big, blonde and beautiful’.

Then there is Seaweed J Stubbs, a hip dancer and the son of Motormouth Maybelle who falls in love with Tracy’s best friend Penny.

Also to be cast is Little Inez, Seaweed’s younger sister, who tries to audition for The Corny Collins Show but is turned away because she is black.

“Summer Youth Project is a really fun experience and Hairspray will be one of our most popular productions. New participants are always welcome, so if you love singing, dancing and acting then we’d love to hear from you – whatever your background” says Derek Aldridge, Theatre Director.
