Swindon Doctors on Strike!

Rain fails to put off supporters on second day of protest at GWH

Patients are advised to attend the Great Western Hospital as normal despite Junior Doctors continuing their 48-hour strike for a second day.

The walk-out is the first in NHS history where doctors were joined by staff from the accident & emergency, where cover has been arranged to keep the department open.

Motorists are urged to 'beep' their horns as they pass the entrance to GWH to support the action, where more strikers turned on day two despite the rain.

The current protest is due to end at 5pm today.

Unless contacted, patients should assume their appointment is still taking place and attend hospital as planned.

Emergency patients and women in labour should also attend as normal.

GWH in 'bank holiday' mode after junior doctors walk out over new pay deal

12 January 2016

Junior doctors at the Swindon Great Western Hospital walked out this morning as part of a national day of action over new pay conditions.

Visitors to GWH were greeted by a picket line of young doctors braving the cold from 8am to make their point over proposals for a 7-day NHS.

Some took placards and campaigned in Swindon town centre.

Doctor's strike Swindon

It is unknown how many patients at GWH were affected by the demonstration but a message on their official website warned of disruption and a reduced 'bank holiday' service.

"On Tuesday 12 January we will be offering the same services that we would on a Bank Holiday, which means some routine operations have had to be postponed. This is so that we can prioritise patients needing emergency care and other patients needing urgent care, such as cancer patients."

More strike days are planned unless talks between the British Medical Association (BMA) and the Dept. of Health can be resolved.
