Poppy Cloak For Brunel

Remembrance tribute takes pride of place in Havelock Square
The amazing ladies at Stitch & Bitch have done it again. Last year it was a yarn-bombing of Royal Wootton Bassett High Street that grabbed the national headlines ahead of Remembrance Day, and in 2017 they've managed to top it.
A cloak of a thousand poppies now takes pride of place on the Isambard Kingdom Brunel statue in Havelock Square in Swindon town centre.

Again for Remembrance Day, Swindon Stitch & Bitch, a local knitting and crochet group, have been busy creating poppies for weeks to raise funds and awareness for the Royal British Legion.
The challenge was how to fit the cloak over the 14-foot statue of Brunel, which has stood in the square since 1973 - but the first time adorned with poppies.

Through the help of inSwindon BID Company, the town centre business improvement district, and Metro Bank, a cherry picker was organised to drape the poppy cloak safely over the statue earlier this week.
The town centre will be remembering this weekend with two services at the cenotaph in Regent Street (pictured below):
Armistice Commemoration Service
Saturday 11 November at 11.00am
The Annual Remembrance Sunday Service
Sunday 12 November at 11.00am at the Cenotaph.
Members of the public are very welcome to attend these events.
