At the Abbey Meads Indian restaurant in Shaw Ridge, Swindon Mayor Steve Wakefield joined owner Mr Ali, plus fifty special guests at a curry fundraiser in aid of three nominated charities.

"It’s very important for us to support the charities close to people’s hearts," commented a delighted Mr Ali, who personally added over £300 to the evening's funds.

"And an honour to have the Mayor here with us here tonight."

... and just down the road at the Bombay Lounge

Keen fundraiser and restaurant owner Hanif Robbani handed over a cheque for £431 to representatives of the Nationwide Building Society, who attended a charity meal night there last month.

"We've raised over £11,000 since we started these events," said Hanif, who runs the Bombay Lounge in Peatmoor.

"This cheque is going to Macmillian Cancer research, and it's thanks to the generous people of Nationwide for making it happen."
