It was double celebrations for a Swindon triathlete in Lisbon this weekend, as Emma-Kate Lidbury took victory in the European Triathlon Championships, as well as winning her age group (25-29).
The former journalist, who took up the sport after participating in a triathlon for the
Oxford Mail - now finds herself crowned the fastest female amateur triathlete in Europe.
The 29-year-old, who is sponsored by local accountant Morris Owen and triathlon retailer Wiggle.co.uk, will now embark on the World Championships in Vancover in two weeks time.
"Racing in Lisbon went brilliantly, I can't believe I won by nearly 10 minutes," commented Emma-Kate.
"It was quite a victory!"
Emma-Kate will now compete in a sprint distance race at Eton College this Sunday before flying to Vanconver ahead of the World Championships on 07 June.
