Blooming good fun!

Swindon garden competition expected to dig up some real talent

Swindon Summer 2008
It's time to don the gardening gloves and get digging!

The annual Swindon Borough Council Garden Competition is open for entries now - and the standard of entries is expected to be high.

Open to all tenants and leaseholders across the town, there are six different categories: best house garden, best communal garden, best new tenant garden, best patio garden, best hanging basket/tub, and a special award for outstanding work.

Last year's Best Communal Garden winners were the residents of Arthur Bennett Court in Birch Street.

Keith Badenski and his wife Patsy, both 68, have been helping other residents to cultivate the communal garden for the past five years.

"Although the work is time-consuming, it's a labour of love. We aim to create a really pleasurable ambience for all our residents to enjoy," said Keith.

"There are hundreds of plants to tend to, so it's a team effort from everyone. The results are appreciated - looking at a beautiful garden really brightens your day."

Deadlines for entries is Friday 04 July, with the judging taking place later in the month.

If you'd like to enter, you can pick up an entry form from Housing Reception at Wat Tyler House East, Council libraries, or via the Council website: www.swindon.gov.uk.
