Stones set to satisfy Swindon

Mick, Keef, and co. to rock Lydiard Park this summer - APRIL FOOL!

34 years after gracing the Swindon stage, the Rolling Stones are all-set to gig here once again.

The ageing rockers - still one of the biggest bands in the world - have been booked for a massive open-air concert at Lydiard Park on Saturday 24 August.

The super-group were rumoured to be playing the nearby Reading Festival the same weekend, but behind the scenes lobbying from Swindon Borough Council (who have already attracted the likes of the Scissor Sisters, Sugababes and the Pet Shop Boys in recent years) means the one-time bad boys of rock are heading to town.

Famous for playing live to the world's largest audience of 250,000 in Rio de Janeiro, early estimates put the Swindon crowd at potentially 100,000.

Local hotels have already been put on high alert to expect record bookings, for what is normally a quiet period in the Swindon calendar.

The news comes just days after Blackpool, of all places, forgave the band for a riot caused at a Stones gig 44 years ago - and invited the band to come back and play.

But it now looks like Swindon have beaten them to it!

As always, SwindonWeb have exclusively obtained VIP tickets with backstage passes for the forthcoming gig - already touted as the must-see music event of the year!

Happy memories for the Rolling Stones in Swindon and the surrounding area over the years already include their 'sleepover' in 1964; a wild night at Longleat; and Ronnie Wood enjoying the company of Swindon nurses in 1990.

Swindon's full connection chronicled in the link below.
