Jamie Cullum just misses out on a Brit

Jamie Cullum
Rising star: Jamie Cullum
Swindon's jazz sensation Jamie Cullum only just missed out on a major award at the Brits last night [17 February 2004].

Nominated in the Best British Breakthrough Artist alongside such leading lights as The Darkness, Dizzee Rascal and Lemar, the musical maestro was pipped to the prestigous accolade by teen band Busted.

That was after the twenty-four-year old had entertained the packed auditorium of pop industry big wigs and fellow artists with a show-stopping duet alongside rising star Katie Melua.

Brit Awards
Singing a new take on The Cure's 'Love Cats', Jamie's first appearance at the musical 'Oscars' was later described as '...one of the highlights of the evening' by one music critic.

Other live performances included those by The Blackeyed Peas, Beyonce, Duran Duran and The Darkness - who won three awards on the night.

After the award ceremony, Jamie - who has been described as the next big thing in Jazz and 'Sinatra in Sneakers' - enjoyed rubbing shoulders with his contempories at a backstage party organised by the Brits' sponsors, Mastercard.

The show includes footage and interviews with Jamie as it describes his very first strides in his amazing journey from the months leading up to the signing of his record contract in April 2003, to the media frenzy that followed and his hectic work since.

Jamie's eagerly awaited next single, 'These are the Days', is to be released on the 8th March 2004.
