Education minister take to the
stage in Swindon
Blue was the colour at Lydiard Park on Sunday - with the visit of Conservative leader David Cameron.

The Tory head was in Swindon to address a crowd of supporters ahead of the May local elections later this week.

But before the 40-year-old MP took to the stage to rally his party troops, he sent his warm-up man on first - Boris Johnson.

The Member for Henley most famous for his bumbling delivery, unkept hair - and controversial comments about Liverpool and Portsmouth - humourously alluding to his life in political hot water as he stepped onto the rostrum to start his speech.

"What a great, great joy it is to be here in Swindon," Johnson said, "one of the few places in the British Isles I haven't yet insulted!"

And insult us he didn't. Not even in an interview he gave us here at SwindonWeb, where he heaped praise on our STEAM museum - and our Magic Roundabout!

"I'll wear it with pride!" his gushing reaction when we presented him with one of our very own 'I Survived the Magic Roundabout' t-shirts.

Mr Johnson and Mr Cameron, most keenly, both prefering to reserve their criticism for the Prime Minister Tony Blair (who is rumoured be resigning this week), and his likely successor Gordon Brown.

The Tory leader describing the out-going PM as a 'spent force' and that both men had 'presided over 10 years of wasted opportunities'.

He concluded his fifteen minute speech by retiterating his own belief in 'social responsibility', promising a society under the Conservatives that will be 'more local and more family friendly'.

And a T-shirt for you too:
David Cameron says thanks for our Magic
Roundabout  reminder of his visit before
admitting how daunting he found it the first
time he drove over it.
"We used to go over it quite regularly on the way to t he
cinema when I was young,"" he told us,
"but driving over it just after I'd passed my test.
That was a different matter!"
