Ramshackle Rally 2009

Four lads from Swindon attempt Calais to Krakow in a car worth £150

What better way to get away from the rain in Swindon then driving to Krakow in Poland!

Well, four lads from Swindon are doing just that as they attempt the journey as part of the Ramshackle Rally, where entrants have to use a car worth less than £150.

And SwindonWeb's James Fothergill is one of them.

After setting off at 10am this morning, the good news is the car is still going - despite ditching their original vehicle two days ago.

An R-reg VW Golf (repainted with a Union Jack) their new mode of transport after their Renault Espace refused to start just when final preparations were in order.

"Just as well it broke down while we were still in Swindon," commented James.

"We're just hoping the Golf is more reliable."

The Rally is expected it to take 7 days and you can keep up-to-date with ours boys via Facebook and Twitter.

The four are raising money for their chosen charity of Leukaemia Research, a cause close to the heart of team captain Andrew Gibb, whose uncle passed away from the condition in 2006.

“It's a fantastic cause and we are delighted to be able to support it in whatever way we can, and are hoping to raise over £2,000,” said Andrew.

If you wish to support and sponsor the boys you can do so at their JustGiving Page via the link below.

The group would like to thank the following people for their support in getting ready for the Rally: David Hendry Cars, Divorce Online, Dokic Joinery, SF, Hinders Fishing Superstore, Lower Stratton Service Station Signs of Life, The Bell Hotel, Want2playgolf Ltd and SwindonWeb.
