Swindon Speedway have announced that Travis McGowan will line up in Robins’ colours for a second successive season in 2009.
The twenty seven-year-old joins Leigh Adams, Troy Batchelor, Simon Stead, Jurica Pavlic, Krystof Stojanowski and Ryan Fisher as a confirmed starter in Alun Rossiter’s team.
McGowan will begin the new season with an Elite league average of 4.25 and therefore assumes a second string role in the main body of the Robins’ team.
McGowan, who underwent intricate shoulder surgery just weeks before the 2008 campaign got underway, finished his inaugural Swindon campaign on a high by notching a thoroughly impressive paid fourteen points during the play off semi final at Lakeside’s Purfleet raceway in September.
"I'm delighted to welcome Travis back," commented Robins’ team manager Alun Rossiter, "he fills the final position in the main body of our 2009 team and will start the season as a second string rider.
"By his own admission, Travis endured a difficult and, at times, frustrating 2008 campaign but he’s determined to come back stronger in 2009. His superb performance in the play off semi final at Lakeside in September showed the Speedway world that he is a match for any rider.
"We’ve been talking with Travis throughout the winter months and I’m excited to have him back on board in 2009 for what I'm sure will be a year of progression."
