Wildcats clash with Milton Keynes

Wildcats Coach Peter Russell Urges Fans to Continue Fantastic Support!!

Swindon Wildcats coach Peter Russell is urging fans to turn out in big numbers for Sunday's playoff clash against Milton Keynes Lightning at the link centre. The Wildcats travel to Buckinghamshire on Saturday night before returning to Wiltshire for the return leg twenty four hours later and Russell believes Wildcats' supporters have a huge role to play in creating a cauldron like atmosphere.

'Our fans need to make Milton Keynes feel intimidated as soon as they step out on to the ice' said Russell.

'The crowd were absolutely fantastic last Saturday against Bracknell. The singing, cheering and general noise they generated throughout the game really motivated the lads. Every time the players looked up they saw a grandstand rammed full of people and I think the increased support was reflected in our overall performance' he said.

The Wildcats collected a well deserved 2-1 home victory against Bracknell in the first round play-off home leg were beaten 6-3 in the Bees own backyard. Despite the reversal in fortunes Russell was satisfied with the weekend's action.

'We played very well on Saturday and were rewarded with a good result. Our defensive work was generally sound and we took the chances when they popped up' We performed well in stages on Sunday but unfortunately never really generated any sort of momentum'.

'I've explained to the players that we need to hit Milton Keynes earlier and stifle their game plan. If we can put in a good performance at their place then we will be in a dominant mood heading back to Swindon on Sunday.' said Russell.
