Oxford Cavaliers 74 pts Swindon ST George 8
St George was again have the long journey home to reflect on their loss
Once again Swindon ended up on the wrong side of a lopsided score line.
Hit hard by late withdrawals and injuries it was a badly depleted squad that travelled to Marston Ferry Road.
Indeed, such was the crisis that at times the visitors had only 12 players on the field and that, coupled with the lack of interchange options, proved to be a major factor in the sapping of St Georges’ energy.
After the whistle Swindon chairman, Tony Ellis, made a point of telling each of his players just how proud he was of their commitment and fighting spirit and, given the circumstances, just how cruel the final score was.
Next Saturday the Saints face Bristol Sonics at Supermarine and will be hoping for much better luck in terms of player availability.
