Swindon ST George 18 Wolverhampton 24

Wolverhampton take the win but Swindon are not disheartened

Swindon came agonisingly close to recording their first win in the West Midlands Conference, matching their more experienced opponents try for try in an end to end thriller of a game.

Wolverhampton used their kicks to greater advantage, however, their three conversions and one penalty making the crucial difference between the two sides.

“We are so close,” said Swindon coach Geoff Norris, “and our error rate is dropping dramatically.

"Today we were running too wide on the first tackle, instead of taking it up the middle in the early part of the tackle count and sucking defenders in."

"It is coming, though, and the progress we have made in a very hard and competitive league in just five games is a credit to a fine bunch of players, the majority of who had never played a game of Rugby League in their lives till a couple of months ago."

Next up for the Saints is a trip to Redditch Ravens on Saturday 21st June, kick-off 2.30pm.
