Business Breakfast - Unwanted Fire Calls
Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service is looking at ways to reduce the number of unwanted fire calls that it receives.
A large number of commercial premises are fitted with automatic fire detection systems which automatically trigger a call to the fire service. When this happens, an emergency response is made but, more often than not, there is no fire and the call has been caused by a fault in the system.
This breakfast seminar has been organised to tackle this subject.
Station Manager Dave Geddes, from the technical fire safety department, said: “These calls divert our crews and appliances from being available for genuine emergencies, and they carry a significant financial burden for the fire service. We are now looking to meet with local businesses so we can discuss our thoughts for changing how we deal with automatically generated fire alarms.”
Station Manager Geddes said: “We have sent invitations to those businesses that have generated a significant number of unwanted fire signals in the past, and also those whose activities or buildings carry a specific risk, but anyone is welcome to attend if it is of relevance to them.”
To find out if you are likely to be affected by the proposed changes and to request a place, please email david.geddes@wiltsfire.gov.uk no later than 12 November, stating the seminar you wish to attend and how many places you require.
